My engine completely failed without warning due to coolant leaking into cylinder #3 at just over 30,000 miles back last August, 2019. Took 6 weeks to get the engine + turbo replaced due to back ordered parts.

OK... maybe that was what I had read somewhere that it was vertical bore holes replacing slits all together. However it was done I assume Ford "thinks" this different design technique will address the issue of coolant leaking into a cylinder. I've put about 12,000 miles on the new engine and so far so good. Again, fingers crossed!!
Wow at 30k,, sorry to hear that..Well I'll be trying to avoid this as much at I can..Getting the Orange Dex-cool out as soon as I get the tool to undo the pet-cock on the radiator..Just maybe that can help prevent this, since Ford has done away with the Orange type..
 
You do know that any work repaired by an authorized Ford dealer is covered for two years from the date of the service, regardless if it was warranty or not. If the dealer is giving you a hard time, call the Ford Customer Service number. They absolutley will fix it. Especially since they made the decision to only replace the head.
They didn't replace the head, only the failed exhaust catalytic converter.
 
Our2017 Edge Engine started failing at 55,000 or so, took it in and the service folks told us that it needed to be Burped... by opening coolant overflow tank and letting air escape. Sounded weird but I had not had a Ford in a long time. They burped it a couple of times as well as myself since I watched them do it. after the 3rd time. by 61,000 engine would not start. got it going enough to get to dealership and they told me about coolant leak issue and they had to figure out what to do next. in a week they told me a block replacement was required and how much it would cost. I told them they knew of the problem at 55,000 so its under warranty and fix it. We ending up paying about 300 for some parts but they took 6 weeks to return vehicle .. we are at 69,000 miles now it appears to be running ok. however during the virus period not driving nearly as much. got my doubts about owning another FORD.

Delaying the inevitable. That most likely would have been combustion gases that had escaped into the coolant system. One of the signs of head gasket failure.

So slow that the light came on today, again 3 months later. I popped the hood took a look, my coolant is low. But not nowhere near empty. Any others had this issue with the 2.0?

I merged your thread with this existing thread on the 2.0 and coolant loss. Have a look at the other posts to see if any can help you. This isn’t very common for the 2.0 engine as compared with the 1.6

Right now all I know is what you folks have read in my original post. Beyond that,what is worrisome is that issues are cropping up across parts of Fords lineup relating to ecoboost engines. Maybe some of you saw my post asking @markboris about his RS. He was one of the early folks to purchase one and it seems the early builds are having head gasket/coolant leak issues. No reason to panic, but due diligence in finding the facts is in order.

Back to real world testing, my Escape has over 115,000 miles on her. I have done one drain and fill of the coolant at around 75,000 miles. Going to do another this spring. I have never had an overheat issue. Only thing I noticed is after my drain and fill I would keep topping the reservoir off and i would notice the level ends up a little less than the minimum line. I chalked it up to the system self-leveling out and draining from the overflow what it doesn’t need after self-burping. All this per the workshop manual.

And to note, as far as I know, no members of this forum with the 2.0 have reported issues. That’s a good sign.

This thread is about the TSB for 2015-2018 2.0l EcoBoosts. It's not applicable to a 2013.
 
Hello Folks, I am from Colombia and I have read about this incident in some Escapes and Fusion sold here since 2017. I'm really worried because mine is an 2018 Escape with only 14000 kms and the warranty finishes in June 2021.The car works great, no problem and coolant level keeps ok, but here we don't have extended warranty and consumer laws are insufficient (no lemon car laws or things like that) so I don't know if the damage is avoidable with some preventive maintenance or something. We plan to keep the car for some 7 or 10 years but reading all this stuff really scares me.

Every Escape sold here since 2013 has the Ecoboost 2.0 and the 2017 to 2019 comes from Spain.

The odds are very much in your favour then. The US model 2.0l is built in the Cleveland engine plant in the USA. The Valencia (Spain) factory makes it's own engine and I've only heard of one getting rebuilt from that factory. That was an Aussie owner on a different forum- the Australian Escape is also from the Valencia factory.

Might as well post it here. Haven’t seen a single member with the 2.0 post any coolant problems, yet. Knock on wood.

3/30/2018 6275 - 2015-2018 Various Vehicles - 2.0L EcoBoost - Engine Runs Rough With Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 And/Or P0316
Some 2015-2018 Fusion/MKZ/MKC/Escape/Edge vehicles equipped with a 2.0L EcoBoost engine may exhibit a runs rough condition with DTCs P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304 and/or P0316. This may be due to coolant intrusion due to corrosion on the engine block. To diagnose this concern, with the engine at normal operating temperature, pressurize the cooling system to 138 kPa (20 psi) and hold for 5 hours. If the coolant pressure drops 27.57 kPa (4psi), remove the spark plugs and inspect for coolant in the cylinders. If coolant is found in any of the cylinders, replace the engine long block assembly. Follow normal prior approval process for your Dealership. However, follow the diagnostic repair procedure in this article to determine correct repair. For claiming, use causal part 6006 and applicable labor operations in Section 6 of the SLTS Manual.
My 2017 Ford Escape titanium 2.0 lost its coolest. Dealer said bad water pump. Under 30,000 miles. Hope they will look at engine block. :(

Did your check engine light come on?

Just had mine in the dealer today. 2017 ford escape se 2.0 4wd with 48,000 miles P0302 misfire code. Coolant leak in cylinder. They are replacing motor but I have an extended warranty for 75,000 miles. I have seen a class action suit trying to get ford to fix the design flaw. Apparently trying get the engines to cool they took away part of the aluminum. Have to find out more tomorrow as the dealer doesn't want to talk with me so they call my wife. lol I wonder why.
 
No light came on but I caught it right away. I smelled the coolant head a squeal and saw the leak. Drive 5 minutes to dealer and left it there. They replaced the water pump.

Yeah, we’ll see where that lawsuit goes. If Toyota releases a Corolla Hatchback GR then I’m selling my Ford. Regardless, probably my last Ford. I’m just glad I have 100,000 PowerTrain Care ESP.

well I understand that all eco boost have same problem. GM included. They trying to get the aluminum blocks to cool so they won't warp.
